Your current walk

You already know how your next walk will go…

01

You hope the walk will be different as you clip your dog's leash on with a pit of dread in your stomach.

02

You feel guilty for feeling this way. It's your dog's favourite part of the day, but it's become a chore for you.

03

The second you step out the door, your dog starts ignoring you and dragging you down the street.

04

You constantly repeat yourself while trying to keep your composure and even apologising as people pass by.

By the time you're home, you're exhausted, embarrassed, and already dreading tomorrow.

The cost

The longer this goes on, the more it takes from you.

When every walk feels like something to survive, you start working around it. Quieter routes. Earlier outings. Shorter walks, or none at all.

But you can't skip them for long, and that's where the cycle starts:

01

You walk them less

02

Your dog gets more wound up

03

They pull harder

04

The walk gets worse

Round and round

01

You walk them less

02

04

The walk gets worse

↺ Round and round

And it doesn't stay on the walk…

The frustration follows you home, into your work life and your relationships.

Your social circle starts getting smaller. You say no to plans, and the things you wanted to do with your dog never happen.

You might even start to resent your own dog, then feel awful about it.

And some owners get to the point where they start wondering if they're even the right owner for their dog.

That's the real cost.

Walks aren't meant to feel like this.

Your future walks

Now picture your next walk…

A happy black Staffie sitting calmly on a slip lead out on a town street
  • You pick up the leash and, for once, there's no dread. You're actually looking forward to it.
  • You step outside and your dog walks beside you, checking in with you instead of the street.
  • Something interesting appears. Your dog glances at it, then looks back to you for what to do next.
  • When it's appropriate, you release them to sniff and explore, and they come back to you when it's time to move on.
  • You take them to the park, the pub, the beach. Instead of apologising to people, you're getting compliments on how well-behaved your dog is.
  • You get home, and your dog settles, because they've actually had a good walk.

The goal isn't a dog stuck in a strict position by your side for the whole walk. It's a teammate you can rely on, and a walk you both enjoy.

That's the life you pictured when you got your dog. It starts with one day.

The real problem

So why is your dog still pulling?

You've picked up advice from everywhere…

A video on YouTube

A trick from Instagram

Something a friend swore by

And none of it seems to work for your dog.

“Being told what to do isn't the same as understanding how to do it and why each step matters.”

Disconnected tips leave you overwhelmed. You don't really know what you're doing, and without realising it, you could be building bad habits that make things worse.

You don't need more tips!

You need a clear process, broken down and shown practically, by someone who knows what they're doing.

The process

How the day runs

One full day, 1:1, starting at your home. I show you what to do and why, then you practise it with me beside you.

Key principle

Getting a dog to stop pulling is one thing. Teaching them how to actually walk with you is another.

It's like learning to drive. You don't start on the motorway. You learn the clutch, the mirrors and the steering, then put them together. Leash walking works the same way.

  1. 1

    Assessment walk

I watch how your dog walks and spot where things are going wrong.

  2. 2

    Foundation build

We teach each piece on its own:

    • Engagement: your dog looking to you for direction
    • Walking by your side, and enjoying it
    • An automatic sit when you stop
    • Understanding what the leash means
    • Freedom: released to sniff, toilet and explore
  3. 3

    Putting it together

We link the pieces and head out, past the distractions that normally cause the pulling.

  4. 4

    Result walk

You walk your dog on a loose leash, with me watching. That's how we know it's worked.

My approach

It's not about controlling your dog. It's about working together as a team.

You learn to guide your dog clearly and consistently, so you feel in control without feeling controlling. Your dog looks to you for direction, and gets their freedom when it's appropriate.

Around 90% of what your dog learns on the day is built through rewards and reinforcement.

The rest comes down to clear communication.

As a balanced trainer, I teach that with tools (a prong collar, or a slip leash for more sensitive dogs).

Used correctly, I believe they're one of the clearest ways to show your dog what the leash means. You use far less pressure, and they're a lot easier for “regular owners” to get to grips with (no pun intended).

I'll show you how to use them safely, fairly and correctly, so you're never guessing.

Key principle

Tools aren't there for control. They make communication clearer.

If tools aren't for you, this isn't the right fit, and that's okay.

The offer

Along with the transformation, here's everything you can expect.

Plus

01

The “What Now?” Playbook

When can I stop using the prong collar?
When do I stop rewarding?
What do I do around other dogs?
How do I speak up for my dog?

02

The Maintenance Plan

A better walk only stays better if you keep it that way. These are the simple habits that lock it in, so you don't slide back into old patterns.

I've wasted money on training that didn't work for me before, and I believe no one should have to.

By the end of the day, you should have a dog walking on a loose leash, the confidence and skills to handle them, and a walk you both enjoy.

If we don't get there, I'll happily refund you, or keep working with you until we do.

Is this for you?

THIS IS FOR YOU IF…

  • Your dog is over 6 months old
  • Your dog pulls on the leash and ignores you on walks
  • Walking your dog feels more like a chore you dread than something you enjoy
  • You're tired of going round in circles, and want someone to show you the actual process
  • You're ready for change now, and willing to put in the work
  • You're open to a balanced approach, including tools where needed
  • You want a teammate on walks, not a dog you're constantly battling

THIS ISN'T FOR YOU IF…

  • Your dog is under 6 months old
  • You're not comfortable with prong collars or slip leashes
  • You're happy to be in the same position in six months' time
  • You've been struggling for ages, but aren't open to trying a different way
  • You want someone to fix your dog without being involved yourself
  • You expect your dog to be fixed in a day, with no practice afterwards
  • You care more about what other people think than what your dog needs

How I can help you

Hi, I'm Junior

I've spent a lot of time on the other end of the leash: volunteering at rescues, working as a dog walker, helping my own dog and other people's dogs.

Even though I'm accredited in dog behaviour, what I'm most passionate about is the walk. When you get that right, it has a knock-on effect on everything else, from your dog's behaviour at home to the relationship you have with them, and even your mental health.

I understand the intensity behind the pulling, the dread before you head out, the isolation, and the worry that everyone's watching and judging you.

I've been through it myself, and built a process from it that I now teach to owners like you.

Why now

What would another six months of stressful walks cost you?

Six months from now, it's spring. Lighter evenings, warmer weather, the walks you pictured when you got your dog…and you're still dreading every single one of them.

Because pulling doesn't fix itself. Every walk where your dog drags you down the road is practice. Six months is at least 180 more walks of getting better at the exact thing you want to stop, and the more it's practised, the harder it is to undo. Leave it long enough, and for some dogs it can lead to deeper problems like reactivity.

Walks should be something you both enjoy.

Which is riskier? Investing in a clear process with a guaranteed outcome, or spending another six months doing the same thing?

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How long does it take?

It's a full-day session. Exactly how long depends on your dog and how you both learn, but expect a minimum of about four hours.

Can you really sort leash pulling in one day?

Think of it like an intensive driving course. You can learn everything you need in one focused block, but you still need to practise before you're confident on the road. By the end of the day, your dog should be walking on a loose leash, and you'll know exactly how to keep it that way. The practice afterwards is what makes it stick.

Will I only be shown what to do, or will I understand why?

Both. I break down what to do, what your dog is learning, and why each step matters, so you can handle real walks without guessing.

I've already tried something like this. What's different?

Most training focuses on getting a dog to stop pulling. This goes further: teaching your dog how to actually walk on a leash, as part of a team with you.

Is this about controlling my dog?

No. It's about working together. Your dog walks beside you, looks to you for direction, and gets their freedom when it's appropriate.

Where does it happen?

I come and work with you at your home first, away from distractions, so your dog can learn. Then we head out “into the wild” to put everything into practice.

Where are you based, and which areas do you cover?

I'm based in West Yorkshire and can travel further by arrangement. Locations further afield will incur a travel cost. You'll be asked for your location on the application so I can confirm it.

Do I need to be there?

Yes. It's 1:1 and I'm working with you, not just your dog. You're the one who'll be walking them afterwards.

I thought tools were dangerous. What's the benefit?

Any tool used badly can cause problems. Used correctly, a prong collar lets you be gentle: a light bit of pressure your dog understands, instead of a dog pulling for its life against a harness or flat collar. Once your dog understands, you can move to a martingale or slip leash.

What if my dog is too sensitive for a prong collar?

Then we use a slip leash instead. The method works either way.

Are the tools included in the price?

No. A take-home kit is available to buy from me. The price depends on your dog's size and which tool suits them. A prong collar kit is roughly £50 to £60 and a slip leash is cheaper. You're also welcome to buy your own.

What if my dog is reactive?

Reactivity isn't something that can be sorted in a day. This Intensive is about pulling and leash manners. If your dog also lunges or barks at triggers, say so on your application and we'll discuss whether this is the right fit. I may be able to help you in another way.

What if we struggle after the session?

That's what 7-Day Support is for. I'll ask how real walks are going and help with anything that hasn't gone as expected. One difficult walk doesn't mean the training has failed.

What happens after I apply?

You'll get a confirmation email straight away. I'll review your application and reply within 24 to 48 hours to agree a date. Your £50 deposit is only requested once the date is set.

Why is the founding price so low?

I've been working with dogs for a while, and this is me launching the Leash Manners Intensive as a proper service. These first five spots are my founding cohort, so they're priced lower. Nothing is cut back: you get the full day and everything included. After these five spots, the price goes up.

When do I pay the rest?

Your £50 deposit secures your date. The remaining £125 is due before your session.

What if it doesn't work?

If we don't get there, I'll happily refund you, or keep working with you until we do.
